Where does the Taillight wires enter the rear fender. I was told that they go under the fender and not through a hole like a 68 or 69 model. I would like to verify that before paint.

That is correct, 1966 was the last year that the tail light wire ran along the inside of the fender all the way to the bottom and exited at the bottom near the rear brake switch.

Hopefully you are able to see what I am referring to in this photo of my all-original 1966 XLCH:

Is the bottom of the fender terminated the same as the later fender or is it a little shorter?

If you are referring to the rear part of the fender (below the taillight), yes it is the longer of the two.

65 was the last year for the "short" rear fender.

66 CH was a one year only rear fender, no taillight wire hole, wire guide goes to the bottom of the front of the fender.

Coil indent appeared in 67 on the H, I think 69 for the CH.

One last question
Is the part of the fender going towards the swingarm (lower front) the same length as the later fender?
