Solo seat bracket

Postby Mikes » Thu Apr 06, 2017 5:07 pm

I am trying to gather parts so I will have the option of using a solo seat as well as my dual seat on my '66 XLCH. There is a bracket on eBay with the casting number shown as 51910-52. My parts book and the supplement that I pulled up on this site says the part number should be 51901-52. Seller thinks the casting number and parts number may not agree. I can see there are options with different number for other years and for the K and XLH. I don't want to spend this much money for the wrong part. Can someone help me out here?

Thanks,

Mike

Casting number and part number almost never agree. One the part is machined, or painted or anything else, it is assigned a new number. There are many threads on this site talking about seat trees, I encourage you to search for them, as well as checking out the parts books in the literature section and any write-ups in the technical section.

I believe this is the one you need. The later one with the reinforced end the finger is pointing to. The casting numbers are visible on the underside. The early version the casting numbers are not visible on the underside.
Good luck,

there are 3 basic tees.
each fit to one of the 3 basic seats.
(there are manufacturing differences that result in appearance differences within each of the 3 tees, but the 3 basic tees fit the 3 basic seats)

the -52 seat (orig fitment 52 & 53)

it uses this tee

the -54 seat (orig fitment 54-64)

it uses the top tee in this pic.

the -40 seat (orig fitment 65-70)
this one uses the bottom tee in the above photo.

each seat / tee combo will fit any 52-70 frame.

This is a tremendous help. I do understand that any tee/seat set will fit the frame on my bike, but I am right in saying that the correct seat for the '66 XLCH is the 15" long 52000-40 seat and that would require the 51901-52 seat bar? Based on the photos in your post I don't think the seat bar currently on eBay is correct. Rather than waste money on the wrong part I think I will wait and try to find something at Oley at the end of the month.

Thanks,

Mike

Every -66 dual seat I have ever used has rubbed significant paint off the rear fender. Take that into consideration if you plan to swap back and forth with a solo seat.

I recently came across a seat bracket with the casting number of 51910-52a . This is the Y shaped bracket the holes for bolting the seat measure 6 5/16 center to center. All the other ones that I have come across measure 6 9/16 center to center. Did HD have different seat bolt patterns
