1957 Sportster Gas Tank Questions

Postby GaryM2 » Fri Mar 23, 2018 3:43 pm

I have a couple of 1957 Sportster Gas Tank questions:

1) Does anyone know the correct thickness of the cork nameplate emblem gasket? Part # 61792-57. It looks like I will need to make my own set.

2) The gas line elbows looks threaded in the parts manual, but I can't see if they are threaded on the tank. Do these unscrew from the tank? I want to make sure I don't ruin the tank by trying to remove them. Part # 62375-57

3) I see the 1957 nameplate emblems look like they are attached with a rivet & clip type fastener. Part # 61795-57 & 61797-57. It looks like these are still available. Anybody have experience attaching these to the tank, and how is it done? My current nameplate emblems are attached by screws.

1. 1/16"
2. 62357-57 is the outlet fitting that goes on the DC carb float valve.
3. The original emblem mount is a vertical bracket bent around on both ends. The two flanges each have an unthreaded hole. The speed nuts for the rivets snap-fit into the holes and the rivets are a push-in fit.
