drawings for K model tranny

Postby K Daddy » Mon Nov 09, 2020 5:24 pm

I have a 52 K model that has been sitting in a horse barn for years. The internal grease had all hardened and it would not shift.
I have cleaned everything but am worried about the transmission.
I'm close to putting the cases / transmission back together but am only 90% confident everything is together with no errors.
I don't have good drawings showing proper transmission parts stack-up.
I have a K model parts book but the images are really small. The part numbers don't indicate how many teeth are on each gear.
Does anyone have or know where I can get transmission drawings that are complete?
Will a shop manual for a flat head servi-car have a similar layout to the K model?
I really can't continue until I am sure the transmission is right.

Hi K Daddy,
I'm not a mechanic and I doubt that I could properly assemble a K or Sportster transmission properly. Having said that I have spent the last year researching the major K and Sportster Transmission parts, 52-72. I know nothing about proper clearances but I do think I can shine some light on what gears, countershafts, mainshafts, pressure plate release rods, trap doors and shift cam assemblies went with particular years. I noticed that Dave still has posted one of the early drafts of the Bulletin, version 6. I would rather people didn't even look at it. It has much erroneous information. A few weeks ago I sent out version 12, it hasn't been posted yet. If you send me an email I will send you version 13 that I'm working on. Your 52 transmission if still with original gears has many unique parts. A mainshaft only used in 52 with a right end release rod also used only in 52, a countershaft used only in 52 & 53 and many gears that were used only in 52 or 52 and 53. Since I can only post 3 pictures here I will post the 3 that I think will be of most help to you.

Thanks Jerry, this helps a lot.
Maybe you or others can help with the dimensions of the shims / spacers so I use the right spacers in the right location.

spacer p/n ID OD Thickness

35361-54
35364-52 (or -56)
35809-52 (or -58)
35841-52 (or -58)
35840-52

Who stocks these shims / spacers? Anyone?
Most suppliers are wholesale only and I can't buy from them. Who sells retail??

Hi K Daddy,
Just a thought before you get started putting your 52 transmission back together. if you have an original 52 with the original -52 mainshaft, you may want to see if you have all the unique to 52 necessary parts for it. Some will be next to impossible to find if you don't. I have attached an image from the transmission Bulletin showing the -52 mainshaft and parts that are unique to it. I have a favor to ask if you get a chance. It sounds like the transmission is disassembled and all the gears are loose. If you possible could take some good pictures of both sides of 3 of the gears I would greatly appreciate it. If you can my email is [email protected]. The 3 pictures front and back i'm in need of are the countershaft drive gear (29T), 2nd gear (18T) and 3rd gear (26T). I will post a second time showing pictures from the Bulletin of the gears needed with part numbers to give a better sense of what i'm looking for.
Thanks in advance if you can be of any help here.
