Here is what I think, not what I know for a fact. I am thinking through 56 for the rolled edge. I am going to use a cut edge on my 57XL but I believe 57 is still an unsettled issue, rolled vs. cut. I have heard support for both from people whos opinions I respect.

Here's some pics of the seat on the 57XL at the Harley museum.

Another comment that I don't know if it has been addressed. There is an early and a late version of the y seat bracket. A 56k should have the early version. Dave H do you have pictures of the two on your website?

Here are a couple pictures of the later style seat Y bracket that I believe came out in 1959. It has a fat nose casting where the earlier one has a skinny nose casting. The very left bracket in the first picture wz507 posted is a perfect example of the earlier Y bracket used from 1954 to 1958.

Would the rolled edge seats all be leather then? The waterproof vinyl seems to be too thick and hard to be rolled over without cracking. The vinyl buddy seats were available in the spare parts catalog I have dated Feb 1, 1956. Mark

The middle t-bracket is correct for 1965 and later sportsters. Since it is a -40 part number, I would assume it also had an earlier application.
