KK bottom end rebuild: crank

Postby sgtoepfer » Sat Dec 10, 2016 12:42 pm

Hey all,
My 1953 KK needs a crank rebuild. The PO truly put the flywheels at the bitter end and over the taper. The flywheels don't have anything left.

I've always considered Truett and Osborn the go-to for crankshafts and flywheels, but considering the 1952/53 bottom ends are rare and specialty... I wanted to ask you kind folks if there was somebody that might be even better to go to. T&O will recondition my old rods and build me one, but I'm still looking at possible options here.
Any specialists out here that can lend some advice?

Also, I'm not sure how many folks are really into the KKs... but if anyone is interested in trading their running K (or KH/K)motor for this KK, I'd definitely be interested. I know they are incredibly rare, and desirable to a small crowd. This KK motor is going into my racing chassis once it is rebuilt, unless there is somebody really needing it for a restoration.

** Also, can I swap a later xlch trans gear cluster into this case? I have been planning on swapping the shifter shaft for a splined version, and in reading this forum have heard that the older gear clusters are 'garbage'

THANK YOU ALL.

Hi Scott. The 52-53 cranks are a chore to set up without all bolt in shafts. T&O absolutely is the best flywheel company. You can run the later transmission as long as you run a -54 right side C shaft bearing with an 1/8" sleeve to fit in case. Erik K
