'56 KHK Cam Cover Question

Postby wz507 » Fri Dec 30, 2016 10:44 pm

Have a question regarding the cam cover from my '56 KHK basket, and more specifically, the spring loaded bushing in the front of the cover that contacts the generator drive gear/oil slinger. I’m not sure if the parts in my cam cover are correct or complete, but all I see is the thin flanged bushing and the spring below it (which doesn't look correct according to my parts manual). My question at this juncture is “what retains the bushing in the hole and how is the assembly removed from the hole"? I see significant debris down in the spring and want to remove the entire assembly to clean it thoroughly. Thanks for any advice you might have.

That whole assembly presses into the cover if I remember right. It would probably get ruined trying to pull it out as it is lightly built. Not much going on there except some oil mist being vented from the cam chest to the road draft tube. I think if you soak in solvent and work it than brakleen and air dry should get it clean enough.

It's all addressed and there are pictures in the post above by Hennesse in 2014. Have not figured out how to put a link to another post if that is possible. Mark
