Unless there are racing lengths I'm not aware of, fork tubes on a 55 K should be approximately twenty one and seven eighths.

Sorry about the size and cropping of the attached photo. I'm not good at this ! The application for the -52 (1st tube ) was supposed to read 52-54 K / 58 up XLCH

Hi Jack, well that makes sense. My tubes are all buried in the container in snow mountain so I can't check. They are supposed to be about 1" shorter so that looks correct. I was thinking the shortest ones would be right, obviously not!! Wonder what the short ones would be for? Perhaps just a custom length, or maybe FX. I'm going to dig out later today and look at my stock tubes.

I looked at my tubes and I agree with what you found Jack. Thank you for posting that. Still don't know about the short short ones. :?:

Just to be clear/sure, as I'm sorting parts from my 56 KHK basket, the fork tubes are 21-7/8". Is this correct for a 56 KHK?

Yes they take that same shorter tube. Only the XLCHs ran the longer ones like 52K 53KK.

I got to my main fork shelf and the short ones I have are right at 21 7/8". The Franks ones I purchased in 90 are 22 7/8" but the snap ring groove is 1/4" higher making installed height 22 9/16". I sent my tubes and legs to New York for bushings and chrome in 90 than the fellow's phone went dead. Pre paid 100%, ouch. Well with the magic of the internet, I bought them back on ebay all ready to go, 27 years later! I joked with the seller about that and he said he bought them at a swap meet. When I opened the box I recognized a tab I had re welded. They really were mine. Funny how things happen. ;)

Erik, Forking by Frank's was the right choice - good looking set of fork tubes. I was curious about trying to re-bushing the sliders... one pair are a little wobbly with the new tubes but, fortunately, I have a another good set. Thanks for the tip - next stop is Queen City Plating for the sliders along with some other goodies for the 55 KHK. Mike

Hey mike I see you said you were using Queen City plating . I also have to get some lowers chromed to are they the place to go in Seattle. I was thinking Art Brass but I don't know if makes a difference.we don't have a chrome shop location here and Seattle is the closest from here. Mark

Curious about re-bushing front fork sliders. I assume its pretty basic to make some half-moon thingies and some all-thread to pull out the old bushings. But is the big deal the giant reamer to size the bushings once they are pressed in? I have never seen a sunnen hone that long. Can you cut teeth into an old fork tube to use as a reamer?

And wino that I am, is there some half-a$$ed way to stuff maybe a lower bushing along side of the one in there, assuming it is a bear to get the old bushings out.

I have three sets of sliders, including the ultra-rare 1953 Solo option cadmium plated ones, so it would be nice to tighten them up.

Hey, how about using one of those butterfly drywall anchors to push down the slider, snap open and yank the bushing out? If I could rig a slide hammer to really gall things up it would be great.

Mark, Queen City has been my go-to chrome shop for many years. I've used Art Brass in the past when Richard was booked out too far on the schedule but have always had superior results with QC. Mike
