Rear Fender Rubber Buffer 59798-52

I'm in need of a rear fender foam pad # 59798-52. Took my fender off and all that was left of the pad was pretty much a few chunks and mostly dust. I know the original ones were like a foam rubber that had a tendency to disintegrate even when stored in a plastic bag. I'm wondering what you guys have been using. Do the repop ones from V-Twin work OK? Trying to figure out if I should just get one of those or try and make one myself. Thanks for any advise. Stan

I have a V-Twin bracket with foam and its OK, although chrome, not OEM. You do need the foam or the fender cracks. I know from experience.

I used the V Twin because I didn't know what the foam looked like- waste of money.
It's about the same density of foam rubber in a couch cushion, approx. 1" thick, same contour as the plate-about 1/8-1/4" smaller all around so it compresses to the plate. It's punched at 2 points so you can access the bolts but I don't see where that's necessary.
I used a couple of dabs of silicone caulk to stick it to the plate. It's dark grey/black. I've used fabric dye for other creative fixes.
Like Paul said the V Twin comes with a chrome plate- what you're paying for.
