1953 KK racer

Postby RomanCZ » Sun Apr 16, 2017 9:35 am

Hi, I'm new in this. Do you know someone who is able to put this engine together? It's empty, except transmission, which seems to be there. I don't have parts yet, but will be driving around the swaps and searching internet anywhere I can. Thx

RomanCZ, I'm trying to figure out what kind of motor you have there. Your picture is just a little too small to read the serial number with absolute confidence. It does look to me like it could say 53KK-XXXX? I must assume that it does simply because that's how you have your post titled. That left case is not a 53KK. The case has a 54 casting number and a trap door all of which 53K's did not have. Is there by any chance a "D" stamped in the left case under the serial number right around the inspection hole? If by chance it does then those are replacement cases. Not sure if they ever replaced the early cases with late ones. Can't say I have ever seen that. Maybe someone can enlighten me if in fact they ever did.

Stan, I wondered the same thing. Also notice the perimeter bolts are drilled for the primary, and based on the cavernous opening for the generator it looks like it had a front mount mag. I couldn't see any casting dates in the usual spots but maybe the pics just don't have high enough resolution. It may have started out as a KK, but looks to have "evolved" quite a bit.

Don't hold me to this but I think Scott told me once that they would use the -54 cases as replacements for the 52-53Ks?

The right side case even though it ends with a -52 casting has to be the 54KH replacement case for it to mate to the left side -54 casting case.

It' might be modified, it comes with this race bike.. I'm not sure if that was original engine in that frame or not. I'm selling that on ebay, but I'm thinking to put this together and keep it. If that doable. :-)

Hi. Jerry I think they will mate, but not 100% if I recall. 1 case bolt doesn't line up? Also would have to use 45" crank or machine right side to fit 55" crank.

I'm sure I speak for more than just me, but I've been looking for a trapdoor motor for my racer. I have been watching this bike on eBay the past few days.

Does it come with the KK or later cams? That would be key to the 'KK' nature as described. The later left case is better for more than just the rap door, I believe you would be able to use the later (non-compensator) crank as well. The case is likely a restamped replacement case, to keep the title valid.

Parts can be tricky, but I know acouple folks that could help you out with putting it together and sourcing parts.

I'd love to take this off of your hands if you are interested in selling outside of eBay. Feel free to call 805-490-0867. My name is Scott. I have had a couple of these and have been trying to collect parts as I go.
