Hi Erik,
The 54 and newer left case wil mate with the 52-53 right side case but some machining is required.
The front picture is a modified 53BN that was mated to a 56 left side case. Right behind it is a 52BN case and in the far back is a 55BN case. you can see on the 53BN case to mate to the 56 case relief had to be cut for the stroker flywheels and the rear case bolt is repositioned.

This engine definitely had a front horizontal mount magneto. You can see the shadow for the adapter plate on the left side of the generator boss and the boss for the timing idler gear has 2 holes to secure the different idler peg for the repositioned idler peg.

That has KR pipes too, so unless someone modified the spigots to accept the pipes the cylinders are probably KR cylinders.

All sprocket shafts will accept a non compensator sprocket. They are just smaller 52-53. I believe the right case will accept all 3 crankcase bushings -52, -54 & -57 so than you could bolt any crank into the -54 replacement cases. I have seen 53KKs with replacement cases as 45" & 55" which wasn't right. 45" with K or XL flywheels. I am building engines if you can't find anyone local. There is a lot of set up time restoring these to "ready status" with lapping bushings round and fitting correct o/s rollers etc.

Hi,

This is basically a KR engine stamped as a KK, not the other way round...

Front magneto, race idler, race timing cover, ball bearing cams, 1/4 speed oil pump etc...

Sportster dowels on trap door = case machined after 57.

If you want a street K or KH, std or special, don't mess up that KR set, buy another one then sell or keep this set that for future enjoyment.

Patrick, Just curious, if these are KR cases why don't they have and R at the end of the raised case numbers?

I'm thinking what to do with this one... I have few more projects going on now. 1952 K, 1956 KH, 1956 KHK (ready to be put together), 1960 KR and 1965 KR. ..Than few Sprints CR, CRS ERS. some Jawas...they are almost ready. ETC :-) So what would be best to do with 1953 KK...which seems to be KR setup now.

So it looks like a nice little project but needs KR crank setup, KR cams, etc than you still have a bike with bad numbers... :?:

I'd be interested in the Kh or KHK, or obviously a KR to race.

Whatever you do, please keep them in the US with people that love these bikes. There are a few of us who still want to love and ride these old bikes.
