53K Sold at Mecum in January

Postby Mayday53 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 6:53 pm

Just walked into a local shop here in Fargo and saw the 53K sold at auction in January. They are disassembling it and making it into a "more modern systems" bike. New shocks, 12V electrical, Electric starter, etc. It is nice to see one done and up close, personal since I have been working on min e for 3 years. I asked if they wanted to sell the parts they are removing but was told no, they are going to box them and keep with the bike...smart move, darn it!

Only owned kick start bikes. Curious about their electric start method. :D

I been at Mecum's and sold at Christanson's before mecum bought him out. I've talked to a couple of these buyers and they've been PROUD of how much they paid for a bike. Like the higher the price the better it was. At Vegas some years back I sold couple of Triumph's and there was a 1957 Panhead in I think it was called Hi-fi blue. I was looking it over when the guy who bought it walked up. "Pretty nice" he said. I said I hope you realize most of these parts on this are rebob and the numbers look a LITTLE sketchy!. He said he didn't care it matched his 1957 Vette. I know of another guy who bragged that he paid the highest price ever paid for a Knucklehead at auction.
