The clearance above the open valves is for flow. Clearing the head is one benefit ;)

Probably has KH cams judging by lift.

Things are progressing. Questions:

What is the spec for installed valve spring length (intake & exhaust)?

According to one on-line source the 45's apparently use .0035 for intake and exhaust valve stem to guide clearance. Is this the right number for the KHK?

Hi Geo, that's a good number for tight side on guides. As loose as .005 max. PreLube the valve guides and stems with STP. Ks don't get much oil in the guides unless you flip the bike. Springs sit sbout 1.9" "1.95 installed with 100-125 lbs pressure on seat. 100 is sufficient in my opinion. As I recall!!! Going by memory until I can get to my books at the shop. Erik
