KH Valves

Postby hennesse » Sat Feb 03, 2018 2:56 pm

I need to replace my KH valves - the margins are too thin. So I have questions.

1) What's the difference between the K and KH Intake valves (18070-52 and 18070-54) ??

B) My valves/seats are cut at 30-degrees. Is this correct for the K/KH ? No service manual for the K-models. The Sportster service manual says 45-degrees.

iii) Several people have recommended the stainless steel KR valves sold by Enfield Racing. Their catalog says 45-degrees, can be refaced to 30-degrees. Eastern sells "plain finish" 18070-54 and 18080-52. Comments? Other vendors? Recommendations?

Thanks for your help!

Dave, Here is a picture of both a K and KH intake valve. The K head measures 1.7" and the KH 1.813" They are both cut at a 45 degree. The stems are the same.

Whoa! My intake is 1.875 and my exhaust is 1.625 Looks like my stock KH head must have been reworked to install KR valves. I wonder why the 30-degree angle?
Stem diameter .308, length 5.535

What's the K/KH exhaust measure ?

Ks come 45°. KRs 30°. 30° is better for SideValve flow reversion. .188" 1956 Chevy Intake Valve 6cyl can be trimmed to any final dimensions. Takes little to convert with lathe. Keeps the 30° also. Erik K

We rebuilt my 55KHK motor last summer and put two new seats in. Why
the recommendation not to do so?

Just the cost and time...get a little more flow. New bigger machined seat rides on new head material with no wear. Just describing benefits if you go that route. Hardseats are fine and normal in rebuilding. Especially exhaust. Pay attention to K blueprints on seat location and shape, relieving angles and shapes around new seat.

For basic seat location and related relieving refer to the KR book. Those seat specs are what you want for location and relief. 30° if going 45° seat is in same location, but relieving will be slightly different. Location and surrounding relief are very important when installing Stellite Valve Seats. Or just grinding valves and seats. Just some ideas on seats...Erik K
