That's interesting Ron. The K 45 street bikes did not have. Curious than if this set has large Ball bearing crank set up, because KRM had Street type regular Needle bearings with different races in cases. ;) Erik

I once again need to apologize to one and all. I was mistaken, this VIN is a 53 KR not KRM. The original question still remains, should 53 KR (not KRM) look like this? Should they have the relief cuts in the spigots like a 54-56 stroked motor would have? I told my friend who owns the cases to send me some good pictures.
Once again sorry for any confusion I created here.

If these cases should come up for sale, please let me know - I am looking for a set of 53 KR cases for my Andres Daytona tribute bike build. They're about the only pieces remaining to be found...

Ron says his do have reliefs. KR rods are different than K, massive big ends, so must need the space. No problem Jerry, haha. Fun playing K detective with any clues.

Although one thing to consider here, is that 53 cases would still have used WR wheels and rods I believe, with the big rods coming with 55R part numbers...
Is it possible that Harley pre-empted this change in the casting process of the early cases (are they 53R casting numbers, and do later KRs have the 54R casting numbers, or were these 54R casting numbers only for the KHR?), or that they were done by the owner as they bigger wheels & rods became available?
More pics would be great for sure!

Thats a good point Simon. Back about 96 I was talking to Brad Andres and topic of the KRs and flywheels came up. He said Dad, Len, used W wheels. I thought because they completey bolt together, unlike 52K street wheels with the one press only end crank pin assembly, however obviously they were WR stock. Very good.

Hi all, "My" 1953 KR cases are std and don't have such big reliefs for the rods, ie they are the same as K.

I'll post a shot once home, I'm still at work...

53 KR cases, paired with belly # 252, good untouched serial on left case, known racer and not later replacement set (no trap door...) drilling/tapping for OEM Wico in front (drilling/tapping not suitable for post 54 Fairbanks Morse magneto)

And no deep reliefs for rods...

Interesting about the rod slots, they can be easily added. Only needed for strokers though I think...maybe someone was planning a KHR build? Homecut vs Factory Cast slots should be noticably different. Erik
