Hi All,
Some friends of mine contacted me about some early rims they have. Are these standard K rims or do they have something to do with racing? The stamping on the rim ends in 52 KR?
Thanks,
JerryR

I don't know Mike, I thought maybe as you that it could simply be saying K model rear rim or does the "R" imply something with racing?

Sure appears to be a -52 KR rim laced to a later -54 hub. Interesting. I'll check my KR book tonight. Not sure what the difference might be...maybe width but don't think so. I'll check around. :D

Talked to my buddy Jay with 4 KRs he raced in the day. He says they may have stamped KR as they were heading to go on a KR? No idea really. I can't think of any difference between the K and KR 19" steel rim. He's going to pull some spare rims just to see how they are stamped.

The difference is due to the spoke angle.

I always thought these were just stock K rims. Don't the fronts have "KF"? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

None of Jays other rims have KR stamped. Spoke angle is definitely different front to rear. Front is same style as WL with the half brake. Are you saying the spoke angle is different between K and KR besides the half brake type? Most of my -30 rims are stamped with part# & KH not for "K" bike but for Kelsey Hayes the maker.

Hello all - R for rear and F for front - (R is not for 'race' or F is not for 'flat-out') this is so nipple seats align correctly with high or low hub flanges. Correct seat angles give better surface area purchase for the nipples optimising torsional strength. Plenty of British rims and early motocross rims have these prefixes. Just my two cents worth. Cheers Hayley.

So "K"Rear possibly. Maybe it's supposed to be KH for Kelsey Hayes like others I have stamped that. Monday morning, the KH factory worker grabbed the wrong stamp...? :D
