*Safety Warning* Lower Tree Tube Bolt

Postby EKHKHK56 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 7:21 pm

All K Models and Sportsters have a small Lock Bolt on the Lower Fork Clamp that retains the Stem Tube and less important, steering damper lower nut. If the Bolt falls out, the Stem Tube can work loose allowing pressure to break the tops of the Upper Tubes, causing high speed panic and maybe crash... make sure that Lock Bolt is intact. Seen it happen. Erik

Thanks for posting this Eric, I was installing my triple trees last fall and fudged with this a bit when I realized I don't have the correct bolt (p/n 46743-52). Maybe a bit of blue Loctite might be good to use?

By the way your post reminded me I need to find one of these. Do you have any available?

Yes Terry, I can pull one for you. Its a fairly specialized bolt. Text 907 347 4617 and send your address. Ill send you one. Loctite Blue is good. So without that Bolt the Lower Clamp and fork tubes are only retained by Top Tube Cap/Bolt. Then the top of tube can break, or pull threads and seperate. Erik
