Harley Davidson did the best. Period. Even w radical cams etc. They knew exactly what was needed. #MotoGranPa Erik K

Eric, Please clarify. Are you saying that the KK had the WR style valve train? Where is this documented? Is there a Parts Supplement for the KK and KHK?

Hi All,
Thanks for all the responses. Am I to take from them that the cam set my friend got with the KRM that includes 1 & 4 KHK cams and 2 & 3 KR cams is OK to run?

Jerry, as talked about in another post about valve springs. Just make sure you have springs that have enough travel to coil bind.

The use of the KK cams marked 1 through 4 continued for the 55KHKs?
4. Probably for the 56KHK since it was a floor model Harley started marking the cams with KHK?

My low VIN 55KHK has cams marked KHK and narrow gears. It is a three owner bike...

I see Erik hasn't responded yet to your question so I thought I would offer up what I know.

The early KK,s did use WR valves. At some point in the production year they must have decided it wasn't working so good or just wasn't a good idea for some other reason and they went back to using standard K valves but kept the KK/KRM cams. I have never seen any documentation to show when or at what motor number they stopped using the WR valves and it has been a mystery to me for many years. My KK is serial # 2650 and it has the standard K valves. I have seen K cylinders with the WR valves in them but no Idea what the serial # was for the motor.

The KK valves picture is from the 1956 K parts book, the KK brochure picture is from an original KK sales brochure and the Competition Cam kit picture is from the 18489-53R "Special Roller Tappet Kit" that I posted earlier in this thread.

I am still very much looking forward to seeing the "flat tappet cam kit" bulletin.
