I have a basketcase '55 KH. In the milk crates is a later Sportster trap door (Casting 34846-54B). I am told that the proper door is casting 34845-54 with a cast-in post to secure the primary cover. I did find a picture of the door with the post, but in looking at all the doors for sale on E-Bay, with 34846-54, none have the post. Is the post really necessary so I could just use any 34846-54 door?.
A second part of my questions is since the bolt holes on later cover I have and if the post is not necessary, can I use it if I just taper the dowels on a lathe?
Many thanks.
