52-53 front brake shoes

Postby 62baron » Wed Apr 29, 2020 8:35 am

Hi

new to this forum but hope someone can help me out :

I'm looking for brake shoes that fit the early (52-53) K model front brake
OEM 44402-52
They are different from the 54-63 brake shoes - as well as the pivot stud and operating shaft.
Any leads where I can find those ?

Thanks

Keep watching eBay, they do come up occasionally.

Hi,

I know some of you value originality and OEM at any cost,

But anyone cares to know why they went from these early shoes to steel ones pretty fast???

A clue: if you rather ride than store your OEM bike, you soon will be in the market for the later back plate and shoes...

If you're just a hoarder, you won't be the wiser!!!

My long gone KK had these horrible alloy ones... But I parted from it too soon to apply the mod...

Not really an "OEM" guy - just making sure we're all talking about the same part here
But good point about the alloy plates... Wouldn't mind changing it to a steel one

Baron,

Problem is you need the lot, later back plate, pivot, cam and shoes.

The later back plate for steel shoes is a different casting...

Patrick

well aware of that.
Changing to a later backing plate and hardware is my last resort.
Still hopefull to find the early brake shoes

Here's an idea :

what if I grind off the boss for the operating shaft so that it's even with the surface of the ring and then use the late style shaft and stud ?
From what I can tell that is the only difference between the 2 plates. Pretty sure the width of the shafts and studs are the same.

Any one try this before ?
