It is interesting if only for novelty putting square pegs in the round holes and it is bringing out some good information on related circumstances. The production sheets are a bit sketchy. I've seen two. Does anyone have a more accurate list or was it lost in the flood? How many 53KKs is one that always comes up. And the elusive but proven 54KHK. ;)

this is typical record discovery from before the incorporation.
its sketchy at best.

what we want to be careful about is when production numbers are reported are they truly accurate.
dont assume becuase they published somewhere that they are accurate.
lots of thing fall through the cracks in a company that would need to be reported if that company transformed into a corporation.

consider this:

this is no potpie of basket junk.
its a valid and solid 60h that had the front end ripped off in a wreck.
the replacement stuff is L60-e70's oe or american aftermarket. (goodyear, beck, flanders, bates).
the bike was wrecked, fixed. and stored away and forgotten about.
no one would have left that 1941 indian headlight on it if they knew what its worth now.

as always i try to give solid proof of what i post.

remember the saying "when the legend becomes fact print the legend".
that happens to often---- but it doesnt change the FACTS one red hair.
it only changes a mans perception of what is factual.

Did HD continue the belly number stamping after 1969? If so, do they still do it now?

Iron heads gerotor 1/2 sump motors, post 77, still have belly code and serial, plus the day it was machined in the middle, although the left one migrated inside the primary cavity...

Image

typical: 777-124-256, the 256th Sportster case set machined on day 124 of 1977

These later incarnations do also confirm my rule that NO relation whatsoever exists between belly serial and engine serial... : O [

Anyway, after that date, my enthusiasm for the iron heads does flatten a lot...
