Dunlop k70

Postby Mark.A » Tue Apr 18, 2017 11:22 am

Looking to get some new tires for my 58xl. Wanted to go with k70's just wondering what you guys like best for the front the 3.25x19 or the bigger 3.50x19 . I have seen older tires that are marked 3.25-3.50x19 why Dunlop makes two different sizes l don't know. Anyway just looking to see what you guys have to say about this.

I had trouble with a 3.50 x 19 rubbing the inside of my front fender, so I sized down to the 3.25 x 19. I think it looks good.

Like you, MS, I dig the front tire...

But on another note, I'm not sure at all about that lid...

An Iron Head should not be subjected to such casual display...

PS, love the japanese Dunlop K70, front or rear.

I have a 3.50 x 19 at the moment on the old XLRTT girl, no rubbing with that one since it's got no fender ; O ) ...

Great road holding, very sticky, but mileage not too great, I always have problems getting 3000 miles out or a rear K70...

But then, not many guys can follow me, whatever they ride, so it might not be an issue for quieter guys.

Dunlop K70 tires in both 19 " diameters have a Max Speed Rating of 93 MPH.

Guys were fitting these traditional looking tires on Kawa triples and realized better choices were needed. We do get what we pay for.

For the earlier year XL 's the K70 probably looks better. For later years, classic Avons match the original GY 's reasonably well and are S-rated ( 112 MPH )

The K70 's of today are not as heavy as the originals. They roll & ride fine, but knowing the limit is smart.

Let me suggest that the Metzler Lazer series of tires, ME33 on the front and either ME55 or ME99 on the rear, availabile in our sizes (3:50X19, 4:00X18) are state of the art for our use and far superior to the K70. I got that tip from my factory contacts. The Bartels Sportster race team used these exclusively. They are V rated so you can cruse for hours at 141 MPH without fear of tire failure. Doesn't that make you feel better? I have run them on my XR1000 and XLCR for some time and am very pleased with handling. I used to run Dunlop 591's but got into some god awful slides. A close friend and expert road racer crashed his Suzuki Gamma twice because the Dunlop tires simply let go without warning.

Agreed!

I have run the same for years, no issues.

Hey guys just on line to check out those metzeler tires. Looks like that would be great for a rice rocket or something similar. I don't think my sportster is going to go 140 and probably won't be going 93 either. Pretty much did that back in the 60's as a 19 year old with a new CH sportster often pegged the speedometer on that one. Now that I am a grandpa I just want to be able to kick start the thing and go for a ride
