62125-50 fuel valve

Postby John R » Sun Oct 07, 2018 2:10 pm

Can anyone say if there's a functionally sound repro out there? I'm talking about the early type with the threaded lower connection. The V-Twin ones used to be almost useless due to leaky diaphragms, maybe still are! There are several sellers out there, but photos all look different, some with bright finish, some dull, one with a brass lower nipple, one that says it doesn't have a reserve.

Is there a good one that doesn't leak and stands-up to ethanol, and who sells it? Thanks.

If we can't find a suitable replacement, can the old original ones be taken apart and restored? Has anyone tried?

There is a valve I use that works fine. Cost about $20 and $10 to modify it for the metal line.

Thanks for the input guys. It would take someone a lot more clever than I am to restore. Rolled-over pot-metal isn't going to take take kindly to unrolling and rerolling. The valve Mutt uses are good, but was hoping for a look-alike for my very original KK.

Drag specialties sells them without the fitting just cut off hose barb and tap for a fitting , I did one and it came out fine but it was chrome. Held up to fuel and didn't swell up and shut off like all the others out there V Twin are junk as well as all the others I tried Eastern ETC

Thanks Gary, appreciate your eagle eye but old stock won't take kindly to ethanol. Lisa, I couldn't find a look-alike petcock at Drag Specialties, but Harley Hummer seem to have done what you did. https://harleyhummer.com/products/62125-50 They tell me that these petcocks are good for ethanol, unlike the earlier ones that had the cast lower thread. Thanks John

It's still the same old Dixie valve with the crappy cheap rubber diaphrams. It won't work, just like all the others (and this guy still sells them, knowing that. That ought to tell ya something about his business practices)

I have heard the repops swell and restrict, and or leak. Haven't tried one myself. Have one, looks nice. After 3 weeks of moving shop, I'm checking email and SHIPPING again for those of you waiting. Thank you for your patience. Erik K

Check out the inner workings of the fuel valve from one of the shop dope postings that Dave Hennessy recently added to the site.
