Bent Straight Shifter

Postby JerrryR » Wed Jan 02, 2019 10:40 am

A question for my racing friends. I have several -52A shifters that have been bent straight. I didn't give it to much thought other than I was going to try to re-bend them. While perusing the photo Gallery at Dave's' website I observed what is listed as a 61KR with the shifter bent straight. Was this a common practice for the racers with the right footpeg position? Should I re-bend mine or does someone want to swap? Shown below is a not straightened -52A shifter along with a -52 shifter and the gallery photo of the racer with the straightened shifter.

OK race fans...contacted Joe's tuner Marsh. Yeah I cheat. The Straightened Shifter is used in combination with RIGHT Side Brake on TT bikes. The extra room helped. Erik

Don't know who's own that red KR, but I can tell you it has never been started again under that set up!!!

Sportster manifold clamps without any other retaining means will fail within 3mn and exhaust springs are too weak to hold pipes in.

Right footrest.. well, the guy has seen too many 70s XRs and not enough 50s 60s KRs!!!...

Never seen in me life KRTTs or XLR-TTs period photos with brake lever on the right, so at a guess, straightened shift levers must tally up with 70s XRs...

On any K, KH or KR models, the shifter bend is there to clear the front pipe when lever is set properly...

this bike doesn't appear to be a time trials bike(no swing arm) and it's not a road racer the strait shift lever may have just found its way from a box of stuff to this mock-up. the TT designation is confusing (tourist trophy or time trials?) could it be straight for rear set foot pegs , or a too big foot?

Marsh Runyon, Joe's tuner, probably has a size 13. Haha. He raced his Knucklehead Dirt Track till 80 yrs old with one leg world wide until he tired off stupid custom agents. I understand and have experienced over exuberant border inspections.
