Fork Panel Cover Repair

Postby GaryM2 » Wed Jan 09, 2019 9:41 pm

I have my fork panel cover (46298-52A) off and I am looking for advice on how to repair, restore, and polish it up.

From what I understand, the cover is stainless steel and it could possible be worked to look better. There are some minor bumps and dents, and what looks like a wear dent from a cable rubbing over years of use. The left switch cover is also dented a little bit. See the pics.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I believe they are SS also, although what grade no idea. I have taken dents out carefully tapping with smooth hammer and smooth steel backup. Don't go too far, just a hair past level than when all done wet block sand with 1500. Tears or worn through spots need a precision TIG job or Laser Welded from your friendly Jeweler. Horn Pack Cover same fix. The welding I haven't tried yet but couple ideas there...If you are extremly careful you might slip that Key Cover Cover off, straighten and reinstall. Again, aint tried yet meself! Erik
