No need to wince, there is ample clearance.
I have the original 18" wheel. Way back in the bike's early days the original owner ran this back wheel and put a knobby on the 18. He'd strap that wheel on the back and drive to Sturgis and swap rear wheels to compete in hill climbs.
I like that history and intend to keep this set up on the back of the bike.
I appreciate meticulous and correct restorations, but that is not my aim.
