Oil pump check ball seat

Does anyone know the angle of the check ball seat? I know you can dress them with a fluted countersink and I believe it’s about 60 degrees but I want to be sure.

I seem to remember someone selling a fix for the oil by-pass problem, but I don't remember who it was. The claim was that it fully cured the problem. Maybe someone here knows of i, possibly even tried it....

You can use a ball bearing the same size as the one used for the check valve. Silver solder the ball (3/8th ? I fotgt) onto a short length of rod.
Use some valve grinding paste to lap in a new seat.
Clean the seat thoroughly after you do this.

Some people advocate just tapping on the ball with a hammer to reform the seat. That kinda works, sometimes.

I have tapped the check ball with a hammer and it worked on my panhead. Although I think re-lapping it would be the better way to go. Just make SURE that you clean it thoroughly when thru as lapping compound is not something you want circulating with your oil.

Also, this depends on what your problem is.

It might be just the check valve but it might also be another problem.

Is your problem that the engine is wet sumping ?

I have a seal cut in the inner cover. I tried lapping with a a 3/8” ball I tig welded to a rod. You can see a nick on the seat.
