Your KHK intake cams are also angle ground, albeit at a considerably smaller angle than the exhaust cams. Inspect the intake cams more carefully and you will see that they too are in fact angle ground. I just measured some KHK cams in a lathe with DRO and found the IN and EX lobes to be ground at angles of 1 deg and 3 deg respectively.

How about that! I'd never noticed the 1deg angle on K inlets, will check it out. I'm still learning, thanks!

The thrust will be to the outer end, but shim at the inner end will ensure the cam lobe doesn't rub the circlip when follower is off the cam with clearance at tappet. It's at that point in its rotation that the cam is passing over the circlip.

The inlet cam faces are not angled

The intake angle is different than the exhaust, but all K/KH/KR cam lobes are angled.
