Is there a template available for the 1956 tank 'flash' or if not does anyone have an idea how to replicate the shape accurately
Thanks for any advice.

Hi, I have a blue print. Life size. I can send you one or maybe we can figure out how to email it with a scale to duplicate…not sure how to, maybe some ideas? Than I can send to our site here permanently. Erik

Herb & Erik
When I get the template from another member here [thanks Kurt] I will add the scale bar and upload it on here as I draw scaled drawings everyday at work.

Please see the attached JPEG images of the right and left flash templates for the 1956 tank. I attach 2 of each, 1 being a scan of the original hand drawn template from an OP tank that was kindly sent to me by Kurt, the other being a CAD drawing of this. Both have scale bars. I have not straightened out the lines but kept them as close to the hand drawn lines as possible - of course the scanner did not quite fit the template so I have added in the tips by eye. If you do use these I suggest you or your painter considers these as a reference only and cleans the lines up as they go along using their own judgement.

Trying to upload the 4 files I've just found out it will only accept 3 files ... so I attach the original and CAD right hand flash in this post and will add the original and CAD left hand flash in another following post.

Hope these work.

Nice job on the CAD rendition!

It's interesting to see my old hand drawn sketch pop up. I have shared this sketch with many people over the years, including Kurt, that were looking for an accurate "swoosh" pattern.

The story behind this sketch is kind of interesting. 20 years ago when I was hunting down parts for my KHK I purchased a tank on eBay. The pictures were so fuzzy you couldn't really tell that what you were buying. Because of the crappy photos I got the tank super cheap. The tank had been sprayed with rattle can black. When I opened the box I was surprised to see the 55/56 tank badges! The photos on the ad were so bad you couldn't see the badges. When I pulled the badges off I could see yellow underneath! I got some paint thinner and steel wool and gently removed the rattlecan paint and found a perfectly intact swoosh on both sides. Since the tank needed some serious sheet metal repair there was no thoughts to keep the tank as original paint. I very carefully copied the swoosh pattern for my painter and the rest is history.

I am glad to see my old sketch still helping people.
