Stan, I noticed that the kickstand you have is painted black. Do you believe this was painted from the factory? Dave

Yes, I do believe it was painted black from the factory. It's usually pretty easy to tell factory paint from a re-paint. I know there is a common notion that side stands were either parkerized or cad plated but I have seen more than a few examples of side stands that had factory black paint as well as foot peg supports and brake light switches.

I'll remember to only make favorable comments in future.

A K engine built with those parts will have low CCP, knock badly at the correct spark setting, run hot, and low power.

People with parts manuals never make mistakes?
If you say so

I appreciate your concern, but I am trying to assess the parts I have and plan my restoration. I didn't ask for judgement about my engine mechanic, so let's keep this discussion focused on it's original intent.

Thank you.

Well your starting in the right place, I'm with you. I didn't know what I didn't know. Let me know if you need photo's of something specific, With the help of Stan I was able to pull together something respectable over the last year. There are some good hard to find parts there. Murph

The 1952s and 1953s used the smaller regulator that has a crimp-on cover instead of a screw-on cover and the terminals are straight instead of angled. If you don't have the earlier one you might want to start looking as these are also kind of hard to come across.

Stan, thank you again for sharing your insight. When you get a chance, would you mind sharing a photo of the correct regulator? There still may be one to find in my friend's parts piles, and if not, at least I will know what I am looking for at upcoming swap meets.

I think I have a line on the correct battery cover, thank again for pointing that out.

Jerry, The regulator cover measures 2-15/16" x 2-15/16" at the base and is a crimp on.

Hello again,

I stopped by my buddy's shop again after work today and we searched for more K parts to go with my 1953 project. Here is what we found. All input is appreciated, and again, don't worry about hurting my feelings. My main interest is getting it as close to correct as possible.

I believe this is the correct shifter: splined, -52 casting number, and threaded so that no nut is required on the pinch bolt:

I believe these to be the correct coil cover standoffs. 5/16 coarse threads. He had another pair if anyone needs them.

Correct rear axle spacer?

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2nGMuei]Image
[url=https://flic.kr/p/2nGLQ5W]ImageI know nothing about pre-DC Linkert carbs, but I believe this M-53 to be correct for 1953. There are a lot of goodies in the bin, so I don't know what is correct, and what could be missing. Does the float bowl look correct?

I couldn't find any specific info on the correct rear shock studs, but I believe these are right. He had another pair of upper studs that were a little longer on the back side but otherwise the same, so if anyone knows specific measurement, I can check to make sure I have the correct parts:

I'm confused by these shocks. He had 3, so I just grabbed two of them, but they look to be slightly different lengths. Both of them have the 21 coil springs. Any input?

Horn power pack with the correct mounting bracket???

Are these OEM plug wires?

Some cables and levers:

Motor mount bolt? Threads look wiped out

I am pretty sure the breather tube is correct for K, but what about the rest of the oil lines?

Saddlebags (correct for 1953 I believe?). Some repairs on the back, but nothing major.

Overall I think I found some good, hard to find parts. Please feel free to offer constructive advice about any parts.

Thanks again,
Jerry

Jerry, Wow, you hit the jackpot again. Those are some fantastic parts you came up with and all are correct for your '53. All these parts are hard to find items but I'm especially happy to see the correct horn nut and breather tube. Looking forward to seeing your project progress.
