...then maybe we could get some XLR posts and feedback??? - Subjects explored may include....Aluminum Parts: fender struts, fork caps, foot pegs and motor mounts. XLR Specific Engine Parts: cylinder heads, pushrods, pistons, clutch baskets, hubs and clutch covers, camshafts and magnetos. XLR Chassis Parts: frames, levers, rims and brakes.

The proper name for the bike in question is "Sportster XLRTT".
At a minimum it is an XLRTT.
There never was an XLR.
All the Race Department Motor Test Cards refer to the bikes as XLRTTs whether as a complete bike or as a motor only.
It is the same as a KHRTT in that there never was a KHR.
I think we could add both the iron XR and XRTT as well as the alloy XR and XRTT.
The 1970 and 1971 XLRTT is the same motorcycle as a 1970 XR750 except for a few engine parts and chrome pipes.

XLRTT frames:
As delivered -52R from 1958 through 1969 (heavy version with a -57R steering head casting, crosswise footpeg mounts and R style footpeg mount on lower right frame rail).
-70R from 1970 through 1971
As raced same as above with the addition of the 1968-69 Hi Boy Low Seat frame

Mert Lawwill used a variety of frames of his and Jim Belland's design and fabrication.

Hi Bill,

My frame is R, K type steering casting but with XL type stamped steel head steady and squashed top tube to clear rear head (post 1957), but the little footpeg bracket in front of tomahawk has been hacked off, just its remnants are still brazed to the frame.

It has the cross bracket and side stand bracket but no provision for std foot pegs holders, but they might have been cut down...

Also has XL type stronger/bigger fins seat casting (post 1957 as well).

The -52R frame had at least 21 different changes to the configuration between 1952 and 1970.
Harley never changed the part number to a 52RA or RB or.....
The only difference between the -52R from (heavy) as used on the early KRs and all XLRTTs and the light frame of the same time period is the tubing gauge and the weight.
