Full length aluminum rear fender??

Postby 44UL » Sun May 15, 2022 11:20 pm

Not sure what section this should be in, but I’ve been hunting for an aluminum rear fender for my 61 XLR project and came across a NOS full length aluminum rear fender that has the sorta flip and body line like a K or XLH rear fender. Has everything a steel fender would as far as wire loom, the doubler under the taillight area, rivets, spot welds, and even 4 washers wire tired to it to put in between the fender and struts maybe?
I would love to up load pics, but don’t turn on my computer much and just do this via the phone which the files are too big. John Swartwood and Gene payne both said they’ve heard of them and there was supposed to be a front fender too.
Any info would be appreciated and i can text or email anyone pics if they can post them.
Not sure that i will use this and maybe it will just sit on my NOS -58R frame...dunno

Thanks!
Grant

Grant! Can't believe more people haven't commented on this fender - must be one of the rarest parts for these bikes I've ever seen. They did apparently make a front in aluminium too - I've only seen it in pics.
I have the XLR rear fender in aluminium, as well as fork caps, foot rests, front engine mount plates, fender struts, clutch cover, etc., but I've never seen that fender before. You do have the knack for hunting out the rare stuff!

Simon I agree whole heartedly! Maybe i should have posted this in the race section, but am fairly bewildered about the item in question. I have now heard of fronts as well, but haven’t seen one yet. I believe i have most the aluminum XLR/KR bits except the short XLR rear fender which is what i set out to find for my ‘61 in the first place. The quest continues!
I did get a -58R frame at the Gas City swap last week for $100 and also a steel KRTT tank, so I’m at least still wasting money on K and XL stuff haha! Also a super nice 59-62 XLCH headlight

The Sportster XLRTT used the -52R frame with the -57R steering head casting. The -58R frame was reserved for the KR and KRTT.

Thanks Bill, i am still trying to find a "heavy" frame for the XLRTT, but the -58R frames keep piling up! Did you get the pics i sent of 68XLR1004 a while back?

No pictures. Sorry.
The 1970 sportster XLRTT is the most interesting with both -58R and -70R frame versions and all that entails plus two different carburetors
