Anyone ever had a bent steel wheel repaired?

Looking for a suggestion or two.

Buchanan’s straightened an 18” Kelsey Hayes K/XL rim for me perhaps 10 years ago. It was bent at the rim edge to the extent that when rolled slowly across the floor had a wobble that often times caused it to fall over. Buchanan’s cautioned that the bend causing the rolling defect may not come out completely, but that the area of the rim where the tire bead seats would be true and suitable for use. To accomplish this I believe they rigidly secure the rim to a table and from there they employ blows with leather headed tools to coax the rim back into shape.

When returned to me the rim was exactly as Buchanan’s described, i.e., the rim still had a defect in the outer circumference, as noted by a wobble when the rim was rolled across the floor, but the area where the tire bead seats was spot on. When the wheel was built the rim trued up perfectly and the tire ran true. I think it might have been ~ $80 + S&H.
