I always wondered who dreamed up the ball bearing and spring detent on the DC air cleaner backing plate. I found an easy way to stop chasing the ball bearing that fly into mid space.
What you’ll need is the disconnector spring and plunger from an M-2 Carbine ( U.S.Carbine, Cal. .30 Carbine M-2) and a 3/16 “drill bit. Class lll guys will know what I’m talking about.
Just enlarge the spring hole to 3/16” and insert the spring and plunger. Spring and plunger stay attached. Works great.

I always just welded a piece of inner throttle wire to the ball and drilled a small hole in the tube allowing it to protrude and bent the tip over. In those days I didn't mind drilling the hole.
