I have no idea where, when or otherwise even if the parts I was offered were ever races. The KR parts certainly were.

But I was offered this stuff in 1995. The frame may have been made that year for all I know.

I have seen a picture (Girdler ?) of a similar frame that HD put to the AMA for homolgation but it was never used. (Well, AFAIK)

Brad never gave me any details about the frame being raced, so couldn't say if it ever saw a track ornot.

The frame you have is "Widman" frame built by Cummings Welding in St. Louis on order from Riverdale Sports to Harley's spec.
The frame was submitted January 30.1969 to and approved for competition Feb 4, 1969 by the AMA.
At that time any frame that was to be used in AMA professional competition had to be submitted to TAMA for approval as a standard or optional factory frame.
Random homemade frames were not acceptable.
This frame was submitted as a frame for the KR, KRTT, XLRTT, Iron XR and Iron XRTT for dirt track and road racing.
Ultimately the frame was not used for the production run of the Iron XR nor was it used for the Iron XRTT.
Examples do show up.
It is a rare piece.
The oil tank, gas tank, and shocks would not have worked with this frame.

That rings bells.

When the parts were offered to me I was just about to build my first Sporton. The frame did appeal t me as it would have eliminated all the problems associated with engine/rear wheel alignments and the sprockets being on the 'wrong" side.

But to be honest, the frame to me looked like a very poor amateurish copy of half a Featherbed frame. The headstock /neck area in particular just didn't look "right"

And the rear loop looked like an afterthought.

I knew at that time how rare the oil tank and rear shocks were.

The gas tank would have been big enough but it was fiberglass.

Would have been able to do 8 laps at Phillip Island - but it's no good for Methanol.

I ended up with the stuff. Refresh my memory who sold it to me.

It was his son, Brad, that I talked to. I don't know if he ended up selling to someone else though.

Dave Aus, what is the hub on the rear brake from on this build. Is it a conical? Stock Harley conical? Can you show a pic of the hub? Thanks, RL
