Spring Special paint for 1959 models

Postby John Ferguson » Thu Oct 19, 2023 12:54 am

I am getting very close to choose a paint color for my 1959 XLCH restoration project. Harley Davidson listed for 1959 a Spring Special color which i have trouble finding. Does any one out there have a picture of HI-Fi Coral . It seems to be a rare Color . I would really like to see this color if possible before i decided on a color. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Everyone. Seems that the 1959 spring special paint Hi Fi coral is a non existent color. Even the big twin sites were unable to help. My second choice for my 59 XLCH is the Hi Fi Turquoise. If any one can help with a code that would be great. The tin wear goes out to my painter early in 2024. Thank you.

John, I don't have the code but here's a picture of a B Model I had painted Hi-Fi Coral by a guy in Nashville who did have it. Mike

Attached is a photo of a 59 XLCH painted Hi Fi Coral, thanks Roger M. I looked up the HD Hummer club site and that color is listed but blank. A quire to the hummer club may get you the color match you need. The HiFi Flamingo paint has a 61 part number so it's not a legitimate match.

Dave, the photo you posted was taken when the motorcycle was brand new by my recently deceased friend Rich Cook. He was in the Navy in 1959, and went into the Harley dealer to buy a new XLCH. The only one they had was Hi-Fi Coral, or "Hi-Fi Puke" as Cookie referred to it. So he bought the Hi-Fi Turquoise XLH shown below. His friend went back and bought the XLCH, which is the actual bike in the photo Dave shared. I shared that photo with a few people, and Roger was probably one of them. It's a cool story.

It would be great but probably "unobtanium" to get a color match for the HiFi Coral. It almost looks like a lightened HiFi purple, but just a guess. Like Nugget Gold, I can't find that color listed in my accessory catalogues I do have a color formulation for Nugget Gold. The HiFi Turquoise is dearly a dead match for the aqua pearl on my 94 Road King. An interestingly piece of info is that one of my painters says that House of Color paints can be mixed to get really close to the HiFi colors, at least blue and red. The 67 XLCH in the gallery section is painted with those paints.

a big thank you to everyone who shared info on the request for Hi Fi Coral . I could see from the original photo of a Hi Fi Coral 59 XLCH, that it was not a popular choice for a number of new bike purchasers back in the day. thank you for sharing the story's of some of these bikes. I have always felt that the story of the journey these motorcycles traveled to the currant owners, is as much important as the motorcycle itself. Thank You. I will be looking at the Hi Fi Turquoise as a choice for my 1959 XLCH.

Dave, I have seen a very faded original paint 59 panhead in Hi Fi Coral at a local bike show a few times. It is much more of a rose pink than it appears in my photo above. It reminded me of "burgundy mist" which was a color used on Fender guitars in the 1960's, which I believe was a GM color in the late 50's/early 60s? Maybe Cadillac?
