I've compiled a complete(?) listing of all the 57-69 bolt part numbers, diameters, threads per inch, and lengths by combing through the 57 to 69 parts books and supplements.

although there is one mystery: 4406b.
its in the 62 supplement under buddy seat.
anyone?

3 points to investigate:

1)
3953w
3954b
3955w
does this shed light on the front fender/chainguard fasteners?
there were 3 different ones
7/16 hex head
1/2 hex head unmarked
1/2 hex head marked

2)
4036
4104w

3)
4372w
4374b

It's not in my 59-62 supplement dated Sept 1961.

In relation to the 3953W front fender bolts with the 7/16” head; what markings do these have? I’ve had 3-XLCHs with circle F markings used on the fender as well as the front chainguard bolt being the same leading me to believe that 3 bikes is more than a coincidence and they all left the factory with these bolts. During judging I was told these were wrong and should be 1/2” headed plain bolts. Clarification is appreciated.

It appears in the BT parts books with the muffler and associated bits. It also shows it superseded by a 3" long bolt in that catalog. My guess is it was for muffler mounting arms for BT, and perhaps in the buddy seat stuff for early type two piece passenger peg on XL series.

I am incline to aggree with on the you on the "F" bolts on the fender mount. Although the popular opinion is that the bolts are unmarked. The only evidence that I can give to support your argument is a picture in a April 1968 Cycle World magazine XLH road test article. The picture is of a close up of the front brake and wheel. The picture is not really clear, but it does show some marking on the head of the bolt. questions/comments drop me a note
For what it is worth - the factory photo of the 56 KH on this site clearly shows CP mount bolts if you supersize the picture.

Purchased a very original, two owner 1960 XLH about 20 years ago.
Still have the bike, and it’s on the road.
7/16”, circle F bolts were and still are holding the front fender in place.
That’s the problem with judging.
There’s many examples where the judges aren’t in tune and even the parts books are not accurate.
I’d bet the bike that the circle F’s are correct.

Also the parts book says 7/16” heads and all the plain bolts I’ve seen are 1/2”.
