1966 XLH Frame Question

Postby Otis » Sat Jan 13, 2024 1:07 pm

Recently picked up a 66 XLH for full restoration. Under the seat on the left side just in front and slightly left of the down tube there's a hole that on a XLCH the capacitor bolts to. Does this belong on the XLH or should it be filled before painting? Tried to post a picture but it was too large and not sure how to reduce it but hopefully my question is understandable.

I believe the picture was reduced too far because the hole in question isn’t visible.

Pretty sure that’s the battery ground post/bolt/screw hole.

The hole is visible in the posted picture, you just have to scroll on the picture to see the part you want. I'll post a smaller one.

Also this xlh was fitted with a peanut tank, presumably by a previous owner. Did a xlh with a factory turtle tank have the holes for the peanut tank in the steering neck forging and the backbone tube or should I fill them since I’ll be running a turtle tank?

Agree with JohnF, it’s the battery ground hole. And yes the XLH has holes for all the fuel tanks as you could choose whichever you want to run.

Far as I know the hole for the peanut tank was sleeved. Is your hole sleeved or just drilled ?
