Tires

Hi All,
Just looking for opinions about somewhat vintage looking modern tires. Traction when it's wet is on my mind. I'm looking at Dunlop K70s, Metzeler Block C tires and Heidenau K34 tires.
Thanks in advance for any insights you may have.

I'm running 3.50x19 Dunlop K70s on both front and rear. I bought them 5 years ago. I don't know how many miles I've put on them. This year, I've been riding about 4 hours a week. The front tire still looks new, but the rear is ready for replacement. In fact, I ordered one earlier today from Chaparral Motorsports. The 3.25x19 is $98, the 3.50x19 is $100. Their prices are pretty good, and free shipping over $75. I think I bought the Metzeler (Lasertec?) tires that I have on the 1962 XLCH from them because of their good prices.

I ride on warm, dry, sunny days, so I can't help you with wet performance. I'm happy with the K70s, and I'll bet the Block Cs are similar. No experience with Heidenau. All of these tires look pretty similar, which is to say that they look nothing like the Goodyear Super Eagles.

Hi Dave, thanks for getting back to me about the tires. I wound up going with the Dunlop K70s. You mentioned the Super Eagles, I have somehow ended up with a Lange NOS 18" and a 19". I don't think there were any applications that used a Super Eagle 18" rear, and a 19" front were there?

There were a couple of years in the late 1960s where stock was 3.50x18 Super Eagles front and rear, with an option for 3.50x19 no-brand-specified on the front. I don't think Goodyear still made the 19s then.

I've got a pair Lange 3.50x18's on my 1955 Hummer, and a pair of 3.50x19's in reserve for the KH. When I get too old to ride, and turn it into a trailer queen (and me into a nursing home king), I'll put them on.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't bought a chain in more than 5 years, and when I started shopping at reputable (?) sources, I found prices from $100 to $150. I was flabbergasted! Even factoring in Bidenomics, they shouldn't be that expensive. So I thought I'd ask the experts.

Turns out the high-priced ones are USA-made, while the India-made Diamond chains are inexpensive. If I had a 110-inch stroker, I'd probably opt for the high-priced spread, but my best guess (and yours apparently) is that for a standard K or XL, the India-made are just fine.

BMI Karts has a great selection of interesting stuff. But they wanted $13 shipping, and I found an eBay seller who offered them for $19.95 and FREE shipping. I grabbed two of them. I'm gonna go back and examine the BMI Karts more thoroughly - cool stuff on there.

So the KH will be back on the road tomorrow. The 2nd chain is for the 1962 XLCH which has finally started undergoing a long, slow restoration - it also takes 100 links.

You guys going to Upperco in October? I'm in the covered "shed" building next to the main building.
